Sheryl Nelms – “In the Black Hills, along French Creek”

sunlight sparks
through golden aspen

shimmers off
a spider’s webbed doily

suspended over
feathered fern furls

bent in the breeze

a yellow sulfur butterfly
clutches a pine stump

wings pumping

while below
in the forest duff

green leaves
unscroll

crimson berries
of a Jack-in-the-Pulpit
